home (n.) A story of who we are, a collection of things we love.
What does home mean to me? This is a question I have been pondering for some time. Here’s what I’ve come up with:
- Home is a place of love and commitment, comfort and a place to escape from the outside world. A safe haven.
- Home is laughter and some crying…
- Home is where your babies grow up and then leave to go out on their own, but always return for visits & holidays! Or moms cooking !!
- Home is where the dog is barking 🐶
- Home is where memories are made!
- Home is my Happy Place 😀
- Home is imperfectly…perfect!
Home is where your story begins!
Home has always held such an importance to me. From my childhood home, where I took my 1st steps. Where i once believed in Santa Claus. Where i did my homework at the desk that my Mom & Dad stayed up all night putting together. Where i blasted my music dancing for hours in my room and talked for hours on the phone to my best friends.
It’s also where I discovered my LOVE of decorating at eight years old. I was forever rearranging my bedroom. In my twenties, my parents sold our childhood home. That was probably one of the saddest days of my life. All of a sudden the house you grew up in is no longer yours and that place to go HOME to is no longer there. That is when you realize that HOME is not a place, it is a feeling.
And then, you realize you are creating new memories!
A place where you will bring your babies home too. There will be the sound of little feet running around, birthday parties and play dates. Then they will leave the nest and go about making their own home and take all of those memories with them.
I have been through many seasons of “Home” in my life. Some heartbreaking and challenging times and many wonderful times that I wouldn’t change for anything. But one thing always remains true, my LOVE for home! My hope is that no matter how old my children are, when they walk through these front doors they will always feel they are home.
